A wonderful autumn in the south of England – almost makes up for the anaemic summer.

The labour market is looking unchanged on Chichele Road in north London. There were around 40 men looking for casual work at 7.45am, Tuesday 9 October.

Picked up some conkers cycling down Maida Vale. Strongly evocative of childhood – shorts, school uniform and relatively stable peer group that I used to meet Monday to Friday for around a decade.
