Hitchens on Steyn

FACING THE ISMLAMIST MENACE. Strange bedfellows.

Finally, I read the piece and I’m pleased to find that Hitchens isn’t as derisory as I feared. I read one of Mark Steyn’s pieces about the demographic threat posed to old Europe by the birthrate of its Islamic populations a while ago and it gave me the willies.

Hitchens recognises this and despite defending Martin Amis and Jack Straw against some of the charges Steyn levels at them, he acknowleges that

His gift for the illustrative anecdote and the revealing quotation is
evident, and if more people have woken up to the Islamist menace since
he began writing about it, then the credit is partly his.

According to Hitchens, Steyn throws together a slapdash ten point plan to counteract the forces of Islamism – he puts together his own -  a mishmash of realpolitik foreign policy and un-pc legislation. As a  self-proclaimed contrarian, I suppose we should expect nothing less.
